Shag Rugs

Turkey is famous for many things - harems, eastern markets and of course shag rugs. It's known that the most ancient carpet which is saved in almost ideal state was weaved about two thousands years ago. Turkeys say that they began to make shag rugs first. Maybe it isn't so and turkeys just copied technique of masters from Central Asia.

But the main fact is that turkeys reached the highest skill in the art of weaving shag rugs.

Since the old times making of shag rugs was women's job. Men were let to this art, but only as dyers. The main colors in Turkish shag rugs are red – symbol of wealth, green - color of paradise, yellow - protecting from failures and black resolving live problems.

Ornaments on shag rugs can be varied - from animals to arabesques.

Both manufactured and had work shag rugs in Turkey are of highest quality. Carpet rows on Turkish markets take one of the most honored places.

That’s why shag rugs are called the most Turkish souvenir.
